BIGGER, BOLDER, BETTER

I want to prayer bigger, bolder, better prayers. Don’t you?

Studying Paul’s prayers is a great exercise. From Paul we can learn to prayer passionately and purposefully, worshipping God, thanking God, and asking God for spiritual and eternal matters that bring glory to Jesus.

The prayer we reflected upon yesterday is one on my favorites. Notice how Paul’s prayer concludes.

“I pray that he may grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with power in your inner being through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. I pray that you, being rooted and firmly established in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the length and width, height and depth of God’s love, and to know Christ’s love that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us—to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen” (Ephesians 3:16–21).

We will never pray bigger, bolder, better prayers if we don’t have a proper understanding of the One we address in our prayers. He is “able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think!”

Do you remember the story of the man who brought his ailing son to Jesus. He prayed, “if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us” (Mark 9:22). Sadly, that is reflective of many of my prayers. “Lord, if You can…”

Paul was absolutely convinced … he knew … there was no doubt … Our God is “able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think!”

“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
