EXCUSES, EXCUSES … #5

But… but… but God!

The old shepherd tried every excuse he could think of… and then “Moses said, ‘Please, Lord, send someone else’ ”(Exodus 4:13).

Did he stomp his feet and have a little tizzy? Was there a defiant tone in his voice? “No! I’m not goin’ back to Egypt! You can’t make me! Send someone else!”

“Then the Lord’s anger burned against Moses!” (Exodus 4:14).

God must have been angry with Sodom and Gomorrah. “Out of the sky the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrah burning sulfur from the Lord. He demolished these cities, the entire plain, all the inhabitants of the cities, and whatever grew on the ground” (Genesis 19:24–25).

And He must have been angry with Ananias and Sapphira, because they dropped dead in their tracks (Acts 5). “God’s wrath is revealed from heaven against all godlessness and unrighteousness of people…” (Romans 1:18).

While we know that “God is love” (1 John 4:8), that God is “rich in mercy” (Ephesians 2:4), and that He is the “God of all grace” (1 Peter 5:10), He is also the just Judge, demanding justice. Sin has consequences! God will not be mocked! (Galatians 6:7).

Moses defied God. “Send someone else!”

Be careful not to make excuses. If God says, “jump,” say “how high?” If God says, “go,” don’t delay! Trust and obey! There’s no better way!

“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
