HIM WHO CALLED YOU OUT OF DARKNESS

We tend to forget… so Peter reminds us of who we are, whose we are, where we came from, and where we’re going.

“You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9).

Who are we? We are the redeemed, the sinners saved by grace, “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation.”

Whose are we? We are “a people for his possession.” We were bought at the exorbitant cost of His innocent blood. We are not our own. We are children of the King!

Where did we come from? We were “called … out of darkness into his marvelous light.”

“When you were dead in trespasses and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, he made you alive with him and forgave us all our trespasses. He erased the certificate of debt, with its obligations, that was against us and opposed to us, and has taken it away by nailing it to the cross” (Colossians 2:13–14). We were dead, living in darkness, when Jesus battled for our sin-sick souls.

And, where are we going? Why did Jesus save us? He saved us “so that you may proclaim the praises of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”

Since we tend to forget, please accept these ramblings as a friendly reminder…

“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
