To an old man worshipping atop Mount Merriah, “the Lord called … from heaven and said, ‘Abraham, Abraham!’ He replied, ‘Here I am’ ” (Genesis 22:11).
To a young boy, sleeping in the Tabernacle, “the Lord came, stood there, and called … ‘Samuel, Samuel!’ Samuel responded, ‘Speak, for your servant is listening’ ” (1 Samuel 3:10).
To a rebellious Pharisee, God appeared in glorious light calling, “Saul, Saul!” (Acts 9:4). Saul responded by devoting his life to herald the Gospel throughout the Roman Empire.
At the Burning Bush, “God called out … from the bush, ‘Moses, Moses!’ ‘Here I am,’ he answered” (Exodus 3:4).
In each case, God was determined to get their attention!
“Abraham, Abraham!”
“Samuel, Samuel!”
“Saul, Saul!”
And “Moses, Moses!”
I suspect that God is trying to get our attention too.
“Jane, Jane!” … “Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
“Ted, Ted!” … “Fear not, for I am with you” (Isaiah 41:10).
“Sally, Sally!” … “Don’t worry about anything…” (Philippians 4:6).
“Mark, Mark!” … “Trust in the Lord with all your heart … and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5–6).
“… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8, KJV).
